I'll open this article with a joke addressed to those over 40: if May Day means Costinești and Neptun for you, then you're definitely old! Yes, the two resorts opened up seaside fun and attracted tens of thousands of young people from all over the country. The great privatization of the seaside hotel industry actually meant the destruction of the south, and the resorts, which were once full of tourists, became a realm of abandoned buildings and unsanitary accommodation conditions. Although we are in the 13th hour, if we talk about the international competition to attract Romanian tourists (see Greece and Bulgaria ), the south of the seaside seems to be reborn.

26 hotel structures were abandoned at the beginning of 2012

If the Costinești resort has turned into a holiday village where terraces compete with each other in the manele set to the maximum, from Olimp to Mangalia changes are beginning to be noticed. There are many hotels covered with protective netting, in some areas work is being done to erect aparthotels, and the infrastructure is starting to be restored. A lot of money comes from the private sector and is directed towards all-inclusive resorts, so loved by Romanian tourists in Bulgaria and Turkey . The resorts will appear in place of old buildings abandoned or sold by those who had them in management. 26 hotel structures are now in the process of modernization. "We still have two or three abandoned buildings, but these, too, will surely re-enter the tourist circuit," says Cristian Radu, the mayor of Mangalia, who is in charge of the resorts in the south.

On paper, the resorts in the south should change their appearance in three or four years. If we talk about the private area here, the deadlines will certainly be respected, and for the public area we are talking about European funds where it is harder to wait, but not impossible. Any hotelier you talk to from the southern coast will tell you that the south will once again become an attraction, not for party people from the northern coast, but for tourists who want peace, green areas, but also facilities for children. "The south has recently benefited from absolutely spectacular investments in the area both in the private sector, in the modernization and development of hotel structures and specific equipment, as well as a large investment contribution from the local administration in the modernization of the local infrastructure," says Dumitru Filip, president of the Mangalia Destination Management Organization.

It is clear that, for the moment, the southern resorts will not attack the segment of tourists eager for fun until sunrise and perhaps it is better that way. “We address families with children precisely because we have almost 20 thousand square meters of exotic garden .. It is perhaps the most beautiful resort on the coast” , claims Aurelian Marin, who manages the Dana hotel in the Venus resort . And Anca Nedea, the manager of the Opal hotel in Jupiter, admits that almost all hoteliers on the southern coast have realized that they can no longer offer just a room, but have activity packages for the little ones. “The owners have tried to offer a package as complex as possible with everything that can be done on the southern coast. This year, many hotels in the south have offers for free accommodation for children up to ten years old for the mini-vacation on June 1 ”, says Anca Nedea, the manager of the Opal hotel.

For example, with a simple click HERE you can find free accommodation for children up to ten years old and a rate of 120 lei/night for adults at a three-star hotel.
