  • The wild beach at Vadu full of waste "forgotten" by nature-loving tourists

I write, delete and get angry! It is not the first time that the people from the Danube Delta Biosphere Administration send me photos with the "evidence" of the level of civilization of some homo sapiens who choose to go to the Vadu beach on the weekend. It is beautiful at Vadu and I really recommend you to try a wilderness escape there, but the protection rules of the nature reserve are simple and written on a board right at the entrance to the area. If you believe that rules are only made to be broken then I recommend you choose the wild beaches abroad where I know you will follow the rules because you are not at home.

    MANDATORY rules for Vadu beach

And now let's get to the "evidence" left behind by certain tourists

Like every year, the month of July brings an influx of tourists to the Romanian seaside . Many choose to sunbathe in the Corbu-Vadu area. According to the ARBDD, during the last weekend approximately 8.300 tourists and 1.220 vehicles were estimated, with Vadu Beach registering the highest number of tourists per day, 3000 on Saturday and 4000 on Sunday, as well as the highest number of vehicles (500 per day). Unfortunately, many of those who arrive on these wild beaches continue to ignore the indications on the information boards placed in the area and put pressure on the natural coastal habitats, and for these acts they are sanctioned. Here are just a few examples captured by the Biosphere inspectors and the gendarmes who accompany them.

"For the violations found, a total of 46 sanctions were applied, of which 22 fines worth 21.200 lei and 24 warnings. Among them, there are tourists who admit the act, assume the payment of the fine, but do not want to leave the place (the car or the tent). We once again appeal to tourists who choose to come to these undeveloped beaches in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, to respect the rules in force regarding visiting these areas, these rules being displayed on the panels in the beach area," the representatives of the ARBDD report.

The regulations for carrying out activities in the coastal areas of the reserve are intended to protect for the future the natural ecological system with the local flora and fauna, the landscape and natural characteristics of the coastal area and to maintain in the long term the favorable conservation status of natural habitats, Natura 2000 sites, in accordance with the legislation in force.

I have been working in the media for more than 20 years. I started at TV Neptun, and for 18 years I worked at Pro TV. Every year, I try to see what good things have been done on the coast, what needs to be corrected and if there are models that we can follow. Funkytravel.ro is a digital "book" where you will discover analyzes about tourism, interviews with people who work in this industry, accommodation tips, but also some of the adventures we have experienced
